The Mysore Ashtanga yoga, sun-salutations, called “A” & “B” have been developed by Sri Krishnamacharya & Sri Pattabhi Jois. Sūryanamaskāra serves as a transition between postures and as a postural preparation – smart, isn’t it 🙂
- Warm-up (muscles)
- Release of large articulations
- Limbering up of the spine
- Every asana is done with the synchronization of the breath (Vinyasa)
It is a meditation in a flow bowing down to the life force and the source of energy, the Sun god .

Benefits of Sūryanamaskāra (The Sun Salutation)
A regular and rhythmic practice (I’d say – every day) will slowly give you the results:
- It softens and strengthens the muscles of the body
- It activates intestinal regulation by increasing digestive fire
- It purifies and develops the lungs and heart
Sūryanamaskāra also helps you develop/strengthen willpower, stamina, mental strength; these niche qualities desirable to anyone who is looking for a change over with a Goal, at least after their first Ashtanga Class.
We firmly believe that every yoga teacher and a practitioner must know the Sun Salutation. The Sun salutation has different varient and all are adopted on the basic prinicple of praying to the Sun god according to vedic tradition.
Other Yoga examples: Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Vinyasa Flow and other Yoga methods use the Salutation.
Keep on Practicing, everything is coming 🙂
