There is a history behind this powerful and meditative yoga system from India. In short, Ashtanga Yoga originated in early 20th century based on ancient Hindu scriptures. It was soon adopted by Europeans and Americans in the 1970s. Now, it is the most popular, in-demand and highly respected Yoga style.
You are led in a series of standing, sitting and lying asana (postures) in a continuous flow of postures. The structured counting of vinyasa and holding the posture makes it challenging and interesting.
There are important rules to practice that student must follow his deep throat breathing (Ujjyai pranayama), eyes focused on the forehead, the tip of the nose etc and engaging the muscles inside the body (called Bandha: Moolbandha, Uddayana Bandha and Jalabandha).
